Rotary Marco Noontime Gets Inside Look at YMCA Expansion

Posted

Marco Island Noontime Rotary members got a firsthand look at the YMCA of Collier County-South Campus recently, touring its facilities and learning how the ongoing expansion will broaden programs for children, families and older adults on Marco Island.

John Riley, YMCA’s Director of Development, addressed the Rotarians and led the tour, outlining the wide range of programs offered at Marco’s YMCA and discussing plans for the new Active Living Center. The Marco Island campus serves thousands of area residents and families through programs focusing on youth development, healthy living, and community service.

Youth programs are an important part of the YMCA’s work. Its on-site Early Learning Center serves children ages two to five, helping prepare them for kindergarten through educational and developmental activities. The YMCA also offers summer day camps, youth sports and clinics, and mentoring programs that pair young people with adult volunteers who provide guidance and encourage leadership and personal growth.

The Y’s Aquatics Center features an outdoor swimming pool used for swim lessons and water exercise programs. Tennis courts, including lighted courts for evening play, and pickleball programs provide additional opportunities for exercise and recreation.

Marco Rotarians also toured the Y’s extensive new 17,000-square-foot Active Living Center, scheduled to open in late 2026, which will significantly increase the YMCA’s ability to provide activities, programs, resources and opportunities for social interaction, particularly for older adults. The expansion reflects the changing needs of the Marco Island community, where opportunities for seniors to remain physically active and socially connected are increasingly important.

Riley told Rotarians that the YMCA’s role extends well beyond exercise and recreation. The organization also participates in a variety of community service efforts, including blood drives, back-to-school supply drives, community kitchen programs, and holiday giving initiatives.

Marco Island Noontime Rotary thanked John Riley for hosting Rotary and providing members with an inside look at the South Campus and the YMCA’s plans for expanding its services to the Marco Island community.
