American Sign Language (ASL) Friends, a nonprofit organization powered by volunteers, with the mission to create American Sign Language rich resources for young deaf and hard- of- hearing children, is inviting the community to be part of its second annual ASL Fore ALL Charity Golf Event on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Hammock Bay Golf and Country Club in Naples, FL. starting at 8:30 AM.

American Sign Language (ASL) has been one of the keys to unlocking the potential of deaf children, said Dr. Paul Nussbaum, a renowned Neuropsychologist. “When a little baby cannot hear, they cannot develop language. If they can’t develop language, their brain will not develop. They will essentially graduate high school at the fourth grade reading level and fall behind in all aspects of society,” said Dr. Nussbaum, who will golf in the event and is a player in the Marco Island Senior Softball League. Among the resources championed by ASL Friends to help young deaf and hard-of-hearing children is the Special Edition of Mister Rogers ASL Friends video series, according to ASL Founder Kimberly Nussbaum.

“Pilot research revealed that deaf children and their hearing families learned 70 signs from one 30-minute episode of Mister Rogers’ ASL Friends,” said Nussbaum. “It meant a lot to Fred Rogers to communicate with deaf children,” she said, adding that there are several ways for the community to be involved in the ASL Fore ALL event, including:

“And new for this year, the ASL Fore ALL Charity Golf event will include an online auction,” Nussbaum noted. A link for the online auction is expected soon, she said.
