Marco Cruise Club members once again held their now 47th Annual “Change of Watch” and Commodore’s Ball at the stunning Island Country Club. Members arrived to music provided by DJ Ken Hodson. Guests were full of anticipation for what is considered to be the Club's premier event of the new year. The ceremony in itself is an honored tradition that began in the military and on ships many years ago that involves passing responsibility from one person to another. Past Commodore Bob Madaio "Rang The Bell," issued a call to order and asked everyone to stand for “The Pledge of Allegiance.” Dan Lange provided the Invocation and dinner was served. Both the staff and culinary team created a memorable dining experience for all. After dinner, the ceremony began. Past Commodore Bob Madaio invited Commodore Ed Bauersfeld and incoming Commodore Cindy McKeown to take the stage. Pins and flags were exchanged. Remarks were delivered by all three Commodores in their own unique way, a heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all those volunteers on the Board, Bridge and committees that make the Club work. The message was clear. All the hard work, planning and scheduling is what makes the Club successful and they are each grateful to be a part of it. A lot of planning goes into the cruises scheduled each year for February, March, April and May; some of these included South to Key West, Marathon, Duck Key, and Faro Blanco and North to Sarasota, Clewiston, Pink Shell, and Boca Grande. Special thanks and gifts were awarded to Charlie Schwalje (New Membership), Kelly Blum (Lubbers Line), Sandy Miller (Publicity), Stacey Stevens (Website) The “Change of Watch” was complete. The Commodore’s Ball began! The dancing was in full swing! It was a fun-filled night. Great food, great friends, and a lot to look forward to.
