Marco Bay Yacht Club (MBYC) has kicked off the new winter season with a flurry of member activities, including long-range and day cruises, formal and informal social gatherings, as well as a host of weekly group games, including poker, canasta, and Mah Jong.
“We like to affectionately refer to Marco Bay Yacht Club as ‘The Fun Club,’” said MBYC Commodore Linda Gagnon. “Whether cruising through the mangroves or to distant ports, enjoying a lively game, or attending a festive themed party, we’re more than just a yacht club. We’re a community where fun, adventure, and camaraderie take center stage.”
The club launched this season’s cruising calendar with an October lunch cruise to HavAnna café in Chokoloskee, followed by a five-day long-range cruise to Pink Shell in Ft. Meyers and a circumnavigation of Marco Island ending in lunch at Paradise Found.
On November 9, the club welcomed 18 new members at its Welcome Back/New Member party at the elegant Players Club and Spa at Grand Lely. More than 80 members embraced the “Roaring Twenties” theme, donning flapper and gangster costumes and dancing the night away to the Z Street Speakeasy Band.
One of the unique aspects of MBYC is its dedicated small craft cruises for jet skis and Craig Cats, which take scenic tours through the mangroves between Marco and Everglades National Park, splitting into two groups: “Turtles,” who prefer to take it slow, and “Rabbits,” who crave the need for speed.
On December 5, the club held its annual holiday party at the elegant Island Country Club, where local band Geezers N Paradize entertained the crowd with popular hits spanning decades.
Finally, on the last Monday of each month during season, the club hosts a “Monday Madness,” happy hour cocktail party at CJ’s On The Bay, and also schedules regular “dine-around” dinners for members to dine as a group at restaurants in Marco and Naples.
More long-range, small craft and day cruises are planned through the spring, as well as other formal and informal events and parties.
“This is easily shaping up to be one of our most active and fun seasons ever for the club,” Gagnon said. “Our members’ enthusiasm for making the most of life in this paradise is truly infectious.”
