Independence Day, celebrating the 250th anniversary of our great land, the United States of America, is just days away. I vividly remember celebrating the Bicentennial in 1976 like it was yesterday.
This year, as MICA has done for many years, the Marco Island Civic Association donated funds to the City of Marco Island to apply toward the Fourth of July Fireworks Display.
On a side note, please know that personal fireworks are not permitted on Marco Island, so we will leave that to the professionals.
The main and probably the most important tip to celebrating on Marco Island is to hydrate! It’s been a hot, hot summer (are you singing that in your head?). Wear a hat, pitch a beach tent or umbrella and drink lots of water. Also, remember, no glass is permitted on the beach.
MICA’s Beach Club, a/k/a Marco Island Residents’ Beach, will be open to members of the Club, as always. Please be sure you have your MICA Beach Club ID with you to gain entry to the property from all access points. Once the parking lot is full, you will still need your MICA ID to walk onto the property.
The MICA Board of Directors will be on site from 12 noon to 2:00 PM, offering red, white, and blue snow cones to keep you extra cool. They will also be passing out some Americana tattoos and other goodies for the kids.
In addition to the usual delicious Paradise Grill menu at the Sessions Pavilion, they will also have a satellite station on the beach, grilling the mandatory July Fourth hot dogs and hamburgers and COLD drinks! Again, stay hydrated!
Don’t forget to show your patriotism and go all out this year with the red, white, and blue. Our foreign soccer friends have truly appreciated our country these past few weeks and have reminded us how lucky we are to be living in the U.S.A.
The American Legion Post 404 will be selling personal-sized American flags from 4 to 7:00 PM near the boardwalk, so let’s support our American Veterans. It is the American Legion’s biggest fundraiser of the year, after all.
The awesome celebration will culminate with fireworks being shot from a barge in the Gulf of America, about mid-point along the beach. The display can be enjoyed from anywhere along the beach and Collier Boulevard. The fireworks are anticipated to begin at approximately 9 pm and usually last about 20-25 minutes. Sit back and enjoy and drink some more water! What a perfect end to a perfect day!
Happy 250th Anniversary to the best country on this Earth!
