On Saturday, March 22, Friends of Tigertail hosted the annual county-wide Bay Days/Great American Cleanup at Tigertail Beach in association with Keep Collier Beautiful and Collier County. 50 enthusiastic volunteers scoured the mangroves, grasses, beach paths, and parking lots, retrieving 177 pounds of trash. Two tires, many bottles and cans, cigarette butts, rope, buoys, pieces of wood, clothing articles, and other items were collected.
Along with Friends of Tigertail members, young children with their families, visitors on vacation, the author of a children's e-book about cleaning trash called "Pickup Pals", and a group of students from the Lely High School Civitan group all pitched in to make the beach and park pristine once more.
Friends of Tigertail hosts quarterly clean-ups, and the next scheduled event is on July 5, when there will be plenty of trash after the holiday. More information about this and other events can be found on their Facebook page or their website: www.FriendsofTigertail.com.
