Fifty Cats Rescued in Naples

Posted

What began as a routine Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) request for an estimated seven to 10 community cats quickly escalated into a large-scale rescue operation when For the Love of Cats discovered more than 50 friendly cats living in overcrowded and unsafe conditions at a residence in Golden Gate City.

Upon arriving at the property, For the Love of Cats Feline Trapping Specialist, Matt Miller, found dozens of cats confined in stacked crates inside a sweltering garage. The cats ranged in age from approximately eight weeks old to just over one year old. Several animals appeared ill and in need of immediate medical attention.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Matt coordinated with For the Love of Cats Program Manager, Cassandra Nocifora, to launch an emergency rescue effort. Together, they safely removed more than 50 cats from the property and began coordinating placement and care through a network of local animal welfare organizations, including Collier County Domestic Animal Services and the Patty Baker Humane Society. A video taken from the garage can be found on the For the Love of Cats’ social media and YouTube pages.

"Situations like this can deteriorate quickly when resources become overwhelmed," said Jan Rich, President of For the Love of Cats. "We’re so grateful for the collaborative response from our rescue partners who stepped up to ensure these cats received the care they need."

The rescued cats are now receiving veterinary care, including spay/neuter services, vaccinations, medical evaluations, and treatment for any health conditions identified during intake.

This rescue effort was made possible through the dedication of the For the Love of Cats team, rescue partners, and supporters throughout the Naples community.
