CurePSP returns to Mackle Park to host the 23rd Annual Southwest Florida PSP Support Group Awareness and Memorial Walk. This uplifting event brings together families, friends, and supporters to honor those we've lost, support those living with PSP, CBD, or MSA, and raise funds to advance research and care.
Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), corticobasal degeneration (CBD), and multiple system atrophy (MSA) are brain diseases that can cause changes to speech, balance, walking, swallowing, vision, cognition, and autonomic functioning. They can also involve symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease including tremor, stiffness, and slowness. Because of this, people may initially be diagnosed with Parkinson’s and you may hear PSP, CBD, and MSA referred to as “atypical parkinsonism” syndromes. They are neurodegenerative, meaning that symptoms may change and worsen over time.
In the face of these challenging and harrowing diseases, CurePSP offers up a beacon of hope. The organization works tirelessly on a comprehensive plan that centers around supporting research that aims to ultimately find treatments and cures. CurePSP also takes great strides to raise awareness of neurological diseases and support those who have been afflicted. In the words of CurePSP CEO Kristophe Diaz: “Our patients and their families remain at the heart and very center of our efforts. Their stories drive us forward, and their voices guide our priorities.”
This event includes a walk around the lake, live music, a luncheon, and a mix of silent auction and raffle items. Registration opens at 10:30 AM, and once 11:15 AM rolls around, opening remarks are provided by local realtor and emcee of the event, Farrah Waldren. At 11:30 AM, the walk around the lake begins. Signs in memoriam of those we have lost and commemorating those who are still fighting line the lakeside, and the spirit of hope walks on. At 12:30 PM, lunch is served, silent auction items are awarded, and prizes are dished out via raffle. The event concludes at 1:30 PM.
Whether you're attending or not, donations are graciously accepted and always appreciated. Holding these events and conducting research into a cure naturally requires funding, and every cent goes to this cause. If you are able, the gesture would help the cause tremendously. Gold sponsors for this event are The Waldren Team, Realtors with RE/MAX Alliance Group, The Arlington, and Turn Key Senior Transitions & Design.
CurePSP is also seeking volunteers for the Walk. Volunteers will arrive at around 8:30 AM and leave when the event ends at 1:30 PM. They will help to facilitate the silent auction, lottery boards, raffle items, distribute t-shirts, check people in, manage lines, and set up/maintain the lunch spread. Volunteers receive a t-shirt and lunch.
