Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island begins its seasonal official meetings on Monday, October 10, 2025. But between April (the end of the club’s “official year”) and October (the beginning of the club’s “official year”), members get together to socialize, informally chat about gardening, floral design, and environmental issues, and also to discuss the coming year’s club activities. Many successful projects sponsored by Calusa Garden Club had their origin in an informal luncheon where ideas were shared.
On Wednesday, September 15, Calusa Garden Club members met at Cav's Kitchen and Cocktails for their September informal lunch. The talk of the day centered on the weather - were we expecting a hurricane yet this year? Would the much-needed rain continue this week? The 11 members who could attend the September informal lunch enjoyed catching up on the summer activities of other members, talking about their families, and discussing recent happenings on Marco Island.
Abig topic of conversation was Calusa Garden Club’s upcoming November 22 Plant and Floral Design Sale and Family Fall Festival. The Family Fall Festival is new for 2025, and was added to the Club’s traditional Plant and Floral Design Sale to appeal to a new audience - families with children. ChairmanDiane Chestnut was effusive about her plans to involve families, organize games for children, provide activities for children, sell garden ornaments and member-made crafts, and sell hot dogs and popcorn. Chestnut also brought some of the clay flowers she has prepared for fastening on stakes to make garden ornaments that will be sold to patrons at the event. Some of the flowers had been painted beautifully by CGC members in workshops, and others were awaiting painting.
Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island meets the second Monday of each month, October through April at Rose Hall at the Marco Island Branch Library.
