Audubon Western Everglades
We celebrated our fifth annual Burrow Buddies Day event to celebrate two important and state-threatened species living on Marco Island - Gopher Tortoises and Burrowing Owls! This year, we accomplished our highest attendance and appreciated all of the support! Many of our dedicated volunteers helped with the planning, setup, event, and cleanup. I want to personally thank Marco PD Code Enforcement, the Conservancy of Southwest Florida von Arx Hospital, Conservation Collier, the Naples Zoo, Humble Bumble, and Brian McLaren for hosting tables with further education and outreach. Also, a big shout-out to Paddy G for the incredible live music! Families enjoyed our scavenger hunt questions, live tortoises, perch decorating, pellet dissecting, clay owls and tortoises, and many other activities! We hope to see you all again next year! To support our efforts, check out our website at audubonwe.org! Our next event will be our BBC owl episode fundraiser, including behind the scenes at the Wesley United Methodist Church on Marco Island on April 27th at 4:00 PM. There will be food, music, and many outstanding auction items! RSVP on our website at https://www.audubonwe.org/event-details/behind-the-scenes-event-fundraiser-viewing-of-making-of-the-americas.
