Blum's Broadway Sets Record for Little Pink

Broadway crooner Charlie Blum is becoming a pretty bookable talent on Marco Island. But on Saturday, November 3, the former entertainment industry executive who’s worked with everyone from Michael Jackson to Liberace, was singing for Little Pink at the Jewish Congregation of Marco Island (JCMI).

The event, “Singin’ and Swingin’ Broadway, raised over $5,000 for Little Pink Houses of Hope, the national nonprofit that provides free, weeklong vacation retreats for families battling breast cancer. Little Pink will be hosting its third retreat on Marco Island for 12 families, June 1-7.

“It was the single biggest fundraising event we’ve had in our two years of retreats here,” said Brad Shaw, a Marco Islander who serves as volunteer retreat coordinator. “We were thrilled with the outpouring of support from Marco once again. All proceeds will ensure next year’s retreat families have a vacation of a lifetime when they need it most.”

Blum was joined on stage by Kristyn Estes and JJ Boylan. The trio performed at the JCMI in 2023 to a packed winter audience. They delivered again Saturday with crowd favorites from Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Cabaret, and Chicago. Boylan’s portrayal of Chicago’s Mr. Cellophane is a showstopper. Estes and Blum showed great chemistry on their duets. Standout tunes were renditions of Liz Minelli and Carol Channing standards. And Blum’s hilarious story of working with Channing hit home with the audience, many of whom fondly remember the Broadway legend. Of course, the evening’s final tune, Blum’s version of Sinatra’s New York, New York, had the ladies on their feet dancing and singing.
