A classic afternoon downpour scuttled the scavenger hunt and sent attendees scurrying for cover, but did little to dampen the spirits of a large turnout of families who enjoyed showing off their costumes Saturday at the Halloween Spooktacular at Mackle Park.

“I think we did pretty good, despite the rain” said Samantha Malloy, the city’s manager of Parks, Recreation and Culture.  “Not everybody was able to complete the scavenger hunt because of the rain.  You know, we might just do it for Easter.  They’ll have a chance to do it then.”

On an otherwise beautiful Marco Island afternoon, an intense downpour made the park’s large covered basketball court the place to be.  The open air facility was perfect for social distancing.  Attendees enjoyed mingling with the city’s recreation staff, visiting and dancing to the pulsating music that filled the facility.  Many of the attendees were decked out in Halloween costumes.

“A lot of people dressed up,” Malloy said, “so that was great.”
