As has been the tradition over the years, Santa will arrive on Friday November 25th, the day after Thanksgiving, courtesy of the Christmas Island Style Committee for the enjoyment of families and grandparents on the island. For the second year in a row, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be hosted by the Marco Island Academy, its administration and students. Free holiday family photos will be taken by the volunteers from Christmas Island Style and distributed through the generosity of Christmas Island Style, the staff and students of the Academy.

Santa will arrive at 6:00 PM at the Marco Island Academy and be escorted into the Academy by “Santa’s Security Detail,” where he’ll be welcomed by school officials and students for this special evening. Please bring a non-perishable canned item to be donated to the Marco Island Mobil Food Pantry. As with all Christmas Island Style events there is no charge for the photos which will be taken.

The Annual Island Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration will be held on Saturday, December 3. That event will be co-sponsored with the City of Marco Island as the community celebrates the grand opening of the community’s newly completed capital improvements within Veterans Community Park. Those improvements were the result of almost a decade of planning by the city and community volunteers.

It is ironic that the first ever community event held within what today is known as Veterans Community Park was the Community Christmas Tree Lighting and Celebration in 2008. This occurred after the city had joined with Christmas Island Style to provide space for the community tree. This would come about when the popular event had outgrown the original parking lot location in Town Center.

Since then the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Celebration has grown into a major event for the community. Unfortunately the normal celebration was deferred due to the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 and in 2021, the lighting ceremony was done at Mackle Park due to the construction at Veterans Community Park.

On December 3 the celebration will begin at 5:00 PM when the city holds a Grand Opening of the newly constructed park improvements, which include a beautiful new amphitheater and seating area, as well as other improvements like lighting, restrooms and other amenities. The city will have food vendors with various refreshments available for purchase.

The Annual Tree Lighting ceremony will then start at 6:00 PM with entertainment provided by various school groups, presentations and the much-anticipated tree lighting in its new location.

Attendees are urged to bring lawn or beach chairs to enjoy the event as they have in previous years.
