Officers arrived two minutes later and observed a 2008 Maroon Jeep Grand Cherokee which had sustained heavy damage and a significant amount of vehicle debris strewn about the roadway and yards. Marco Island Police and Fire Rescue personnel immediately discovered a male who had sustained obvious fatal injuries lying in the swale of 1423 Jamaica Rd.
Preliminary investigation at the scene indicates that the Jeep was travelling south on Jamaica Rd, when it entered the curve, drove off the roadway at Trinidad, and proceeded down the sidewalk and swale before rolling over at least once.
During the course of the investigation, Marco Island Officers determined that the driver had fled the scene, and a Collier County Sheriffs Office K-9 unit was requested to assist.
Marco Island Police Officers on the scene were familiar with the decedent and began to search the area for his associates. The CCSO K-9 tracked the suspect from the scene to the area of Greenview St. Marco Island Police Officers located 22 year old Andrew Roubicek (Collier County) exiting a home on Greenview. Roubicek confessed to driving the vehicle that was involved in the crash. Andrew Roubicek was arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal accident and transported to a local medical facility for an evidentiary blood draw and then subsequently taken to the Collier County Jail. The passenger who had sustained fatal injuries was identified as Shayne William Murray, (20 Years Old) of Marco Island.
The Marco Island Police Department Traffic Homicide Investigation Team is conducting the investigation assisted by members of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office Safety and Traffic Enforcement Bureau.
