The Greater Marco Family YMCA announces the start of its new program to help needy community children, “Y Klothes for Kids”. The new program will collect donations to buy clothing for children with need for basic essential clothing items.
The Y board discovered a number of children in our community did not even own long pants and at least one instance where a child stayed from school due to lack of warm clothing during recent cold weather.
Consistent with the Y mission, its board immediately and unanimously approved action.
The Y’s new “Y Klothes for Kids” program will focus on supplying shoes, pants and jackets to local children.
The Y believes that no child should be without appropriate clothing especially in cold weather.
To provide a middle school student the basic necessities cost about $100 per child.
Board Member, Ashley Lupo, originated the idea and solicited additional donations from other members of the Board of Directors to provide those children identified as needing assistance with the necessary items. The Board of Directors is now expanding the program and offering opportunities for involvement to the entire community.
A special fund has been created for donations collected by the YMCA for this program for ongoing essential clothing needs year-round.
Those interested in making a difference in the lives of our local community children in need can make checks payable to the Greater Marco Family YMCA and mail to 101 Sandhill Street,
Marco Island, FL 34145. Be sure to note “Klothes for Kids” in the memo line. For additional information or for any questions you may have, please contact Ashley Lupo or Cindy Love at (239) 394-3144.
Wishing you and yours a blessed holiday season.
