Collier County came one step closer to completing the Collier County Freedom Memorial as representatives from GATES began work on the planned $2 million 9/11 memorial, which is housed at the Fred W. Coyle Freedom Park, 1515 Golden Gate Parkway, Naples, Florida 34105.
The granite, stone and water memorial as planned will be 13 feet tall and 40 feet wide, in the shape of the American flag anchored on a granite base in the shape of the United States.
Plans for the Freedom Memorial began in 2004, when the Collier County Board of County Commissioners declared September as Freedom Month in Collier County and launched the campaign “What Does Freedom Mean to You?
Last year, the Board of County Commissioners voted to donate $600,000 to help get the project completed. The money was contingent on getting matching funds from community members.
Construction is expected to be complete in April.
