January 27, 2021 was a very successful fundraising day for Our Daily Bread Food Pantry. It was held by the Women’s Golf Association at the Members Club at Marco and the course at the JW Marriott’s Rookery at Marco was the perfect setting for the event.
The field was limited to 100 women with golf play staggered during the day due to COVID restrictions. It turned out to be the highlight for the group’s charity efforts raising $13,353 in addition to adding 628 pounds of food donated to the pantry.
Scott Lien, Director of Golf at MCM shared this about the event: “As Members Club at Marco’s leadership team, we were immensely excited that our Women’s Golf Association chose Our Daily Bread Food Pantry (ODBFP)as their charitable partner for the 2021 WGA Charity Day. As the JW Marriott Marco Island golf operations team, we genuinely believe in Marriott’s Serve 360 initiatives and, in particular, our main pillar of giving back to our community. With the COVID–19 pandemic affecting everyone in our community, and knowing Our Daily Bread’s need, we felt that they were a perfect partner. Our team was humbled by the monetary and food donation support from our members and know that this will go so far in helping those in need in Collier County.”
According to Liz Pecora, ODBFP’s Director of Development and Communications, ODBFP fed 28,000 families, helped 110,000 people with hunger, and distributed one million pounds of food gathered and given with dignity and hope in 2020.
ODBFP is working hard to prepare for what the new year may bring. It is their fervent desire to be good stewards of all that been entrusted to us. Their quest, Working to Wipe out Hunger, continues and they recognize the challenges that come with it. With the support of the community, they hope to be ready with more food in more places every day this year.
Our Daily Bread Food Pantry was launched in 2016 and began serving the needs of school children on weekends by providing backpacks stuffed with food on Fridays.
Since then, ODBFP has grown their services to include a weekly brick and mortar food pantry on Winterberry Drive, a mobile food pantry, and senior citizens luncheon program. The senior citizens luncheon program is temporarily on hold due to COVID precautions. In 2020, ODBFP fundraised to expand to a second location and continue to provide critical food assistance to the almost 30,000 individuals they served in 2019.
They have daily critical needs to serve neighbors who are out of school and work. They need the following to stock up the pantry for the ever–growing needs of families and children in the community:
Peanut butter 16–oz; squeeze jelly; spaghetti and spaghetti sauce; cooking oil in small bottles; mayonnaise and mustard in small jars; macaroni and cheese; fruit cuts; canned protein meals such as beef stew, chili, and canned pasta; boxed dinners like Hamburger Helper; potatoes; ramen noodles; canned beans; vegetables and canned fruits, etc.
You can drop off your donation to Our Daily Bread Food Pantry at 1450 Winterberry Drive (back of the building at Auburndale Avenue).
