Wizard of Oz Comes to Marco


The box office is open and tickets are currently on sale for the Island Theater Company’s 2018-2019 season featuring an iconic show, a musical favorite, and a crazy comedy.

The season opens with the cast and crew inviting you to join them on the Yellow Brick Road as they celebrate the upcoming 80th anniversary of the iconic film “The Wizard of Oz.” This timeless story begins when a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy and her dog, Toto are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. This young performers edition by L. Frank Baum, music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E. Y. Harburg opens the season November 16th with four performances Friday through Sunday.

The Oz cast includes an amazing group of children and adults: Elle Richardson as Dorothy; Eden Krumholz as The Scarecrow; Tyler Mastrangelo as The Tin Man; Ryan Sullivan as The Cowardly Lion; Kate Anderson as Toto; Kira Swanson as Glinda the Good Witch; Mai Puccio as The Wicked Witch of the West; Kate Whitson-Alves as Aunty Em; and Franco Alves as Uncle Henry.

The ensemble includes: Allesandra Alber, Bianca Alves, Mia Berryman, Alexis Borduas, Quyen Duong, Annabelle Frazer, Sara Geddis, Cambree Grensing, Lola Green, Karly Hassell, Brinley Heflin, Riley High, Elizabeth Hobbs, Danielle Johnson, Libby Langer, Bradyn Mallernee, Camryn Mallernee, Emma Mastrangelo, Bella Oliver, Nicole Paul, Isabella Pozzuto, Ava Richardson, Olivia Rodriquez, Kacie Swanson, Amelia Skender, Hellen Totten, Mia Winnik, Max Whitson, and Sloan Wheeler.

Show dates are November 16, 17 and 18 at Marco Lutheran Church, 525 N. Collier Blvd., Marco Island at 7:30 PM with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:30 PM. Doors open half-hour prior to performances. Singin’ Broadway

The season continues in February with the Third Annual Singin’ Broadway at Marco Lutheran Church, 525 N. Collier Blvd., Marco Island, sponsored by Centennial Bank. This “back by popular demand” concert features Southwest Florida’s most talented singers performing songs from your favorite Broadway musicals. Performances are February 8 and 9 at 7:30 PM and February 10 at 2:30 PM. Tickets ($25) are on sale at www.theateronmarco.com or by calling 239-394-0080.

The Treasure of Shiver River

Rounding out the season is the hilarious comedy written by Flip Kobler and Cindy Marus, “The Treasure of Shiver River,” sponsored by Clausen Properties.

The Treasure of Shiver River is a “laugh out loud” funny old-fashioned “ meller-dramer” with all the traditional elements. The show features an array of characters including the nasty scoundrel, the heroic Marshall, the love interest Heidi Claire, Colonel Sanders, and the black-hearted villain. There may even be a few audience surprises.
