The Cancer Alliance of Naples (CAN) is devoted to helping local children, families and individuals touched by cancer by providing financial aid, support, education and information resources. It’s neighbors helping neighbors fight cancer. CAN pays rent, utilities, food and gas gift cards, car repairs and other non-medical everyday bills for low income families in this area. Because of CAN, Collier County cancer patients who are undergoing chemo or radiation treatment will not be evicted, not lose their power or water, not have their car repossessed and not have to choose between skipping a meal or putting gas in their cars to drive to treatment. Some will get classes in nutrition, after-treatment therapy, and emotional support for all members of the family.
During their treatments, cancer patients are usually too sick to work, and their caregivers often lose work hours or sometimes their jobs to care for their loved ones. By removing some of their financial stress, CAN tries to offer patients the best possible outcome from their cancer treatment. Visit CAN’s website at www.cancerallianceofnaples.com and click on to CAN’s 6-minute video. You will immediately understand why CAN is so important to cancer survivors and their families. For those of us who prefer to see where our charitable money goes, every dollar made here, stays here in Collier County.
CAN needs the help of the community it assists, and volunteers have actively been seeking business sponsors as well as individuals to support and promote this organization. There is the senior grandmother who recently lost her grandson to cancer. In his honor, she awaits every social security check so that she can purchase a food card to donate each month. There is the young grandchild of a Board member, who advised his family that he didn’t need any toys for Christmas this year and they could all donate to CAN instead.
All proceeds from Wine, Women & Shoes, being held on Wednesday, January 25 from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Ritz Carlton Tiburon, will go to CAN. In addition to helping those in need, it is an opportunity for Ladies Night Out with your “sole” sisters. An estimated 350+ well-heeled women are expected to attend this fabulous Moroccan Marketplace with a runway fashion show, sample wine from various wineries, enjoy tasty treats, makeup, auctions for wonderful trips, and shoes galore! One of the highlights of the evening will be the raffle for Key to the Closet: one lucky person’s ticket will win not only the closet, but all of its luxurious contents valued at approximately $10,000.
For some of us, the price of a ticket is another night out on the town: for patients in treatment, it’s a matter of survival.
Last year CAN had a waiting list of people who needed assistance, and vowed not to let that happen again. Your contributions can help CAN keep that promise.
