The community is invited to a very special “Coming-Out Party” to announce the artists who will be bringing the past to the present through the Windows and Doors to History at the Marco Island Historical Museum, on Sunday, February 14 from 3-5 PM.
The Marco Island Historical Society (MIHS) will give the community a special preview of their Windows and Doors to History project. This project is part of a series of exciting changes happening at the MIHS during 2016. The Marco Island Historical Museum’s 20 faux windows and three doors will be transformed into vivid scenes from Marco Island’s past, from the Ice Age to Modern Marco. The MIHS is working with seven renowned artists on this project.
The MIHS Windows and Doors to History Project is also the primary fundraising vehicle to bring“home” on loan to Marco Island many of the Key Marco Calusa artifacts excavated during Frank Hamilton Cushing’s 1896 archaeological expedition on Marco. Funds from the Windows and Doors to History gifts are reserved to support the return of the Key Marco artifacts.
MIHS Board President and Executive Director Pat Rutledge noted that all artists chosen to work on this historic project have a shared history with the MIHS and will be at the announcement on Sunday, February 14. Join the MIHS to meet the artists, enjoy refreshments and hear more about the project that will transform the Marco Island Historical Museum complex as well as other special announcements. Announcements and the introduction of the artists begin promptly at 3:15 PM in the Rose History Auditorium. For more information please contact Pat Rutledge at 239-389-6447 or email@example.com.
