It’s not too soon to start searching for the most beautiful yards, gardens, and cul-de-sacs on the island. The City’s Beautification Advisory Committee has announced that the coveted Marco In Bloom Landscape Awards will be given at the City Council meeting on April 4, 2011.
Not just any awards, these awards recognize properties and owners in 5 categories that have made a special effort to contribute to the beauty of Marco Island. The categories are: Residential single family homes, Commercial properties zoned C1 to C5, Condominium complex grounds, Cul-de-sacs, and Institutional properties.
Criteria include use of native and water-wise plants, use of color and contrasting plants, visibility from public areas, and creativity. The competition is open exclusively to Marco Island property owners.
How do you nominate a property? Complete the application, which will soon be on the City’s website (www.cityofmarcoisland.com), and will also be available in print. Return it with 3 to 10 photos of your chosen property and a narrative of why you think the property deserves the award by March 16, 2011 to the Parks & Recreation office at Mackle Park.
Who knows? With a little careful planning, planting and tending, your own property might be a winner!
