Acupuncture is a commonly known practice, but if you haven’t yet tried it, now is your chance! Dr. Mary Marin recently opened Marco Island Acupuncture right here in Marco Island.
Acupuncture physician, Mary Marin, DOM, is a graduate of the Acupuncture Massage College in Miami, Florida. She has a bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences and a master’s degree in Oriental Medicine. Marin is Nationally Board Certified in both Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. She is a Diplomat of Oriental Medicine with the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), the highest board certification.
Dr. Marin has also participated in many educational seminars. One such training, at John’s Hopkins University, was in auricular acupuncture with the famous Dr. Nogier.
What is Acupuncture?Acupuncture is the insertion of hair-thin needles to specific points on the body. These points make up pathways or meridians, which are part of an intrinsic organ system. A continuum of energy referred to as chi (qi) flows through these meridians. This vital energy or life force regulates spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical health.
Acupuncture can relieve various issues such as allergies, anxiety and depression. It has also been used to treat addictions to alcohol and drugs, and for help quitting smoking.
The list of ailments that acupuncture may be used to treat includes anemia, arthritis, asthma, ADD, Bell’s palsy, bronchitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic fatigue, Crohn’s disease, common cold, constipation, cough, diarrhea, digestive issues, dizziness, eczema, edema, endometriosis, emotional problems, eye problems, infertility, fibromyalgia, gout, headache and migraines, heart palpitations, heel pain, high blood pressure, incontinence, indigestion, insomnia, IBS, knee pain, low back pain, libido, menopause and hot flashes, menstrual irregularities, nausea, neck pain, plantar fasciitis, PMS, prostate issues, pneumonia, reproductive problems, sciatica and shoulder pain; and the list goes on and on.
Marco Island Acupuncture also offers Cosmetic Acupuncture, which is a natural approach to reduce the signs of aging. Tiny needles are placed on the face to stimulate blood flow and increase collagen production, which improves muscle tone and elasticity. The increase in blood flow gives a healthy glow to the face, resulting in a more youthful appearance.
Regular treatments of cosmetic acupuncture will promote a subtle and healthy change to the skin, diminishing fine lines and wrinkles.
Benefits of cosmetic acupuncture include non-invasive natural treatment, reduction of fine lines, softening of deeper wrinkles, lifting and toning facial muscles, evening of skin tone and texture, reduction of under-eye bags, complexion improvement and a beautiful glow, better skin hydration, and increased circulation and vitality.
In addition to acupuncture, Dr. Marin offers massage therapy. Because of her extensive knowledge of the body’s pressure points, it is only natural that she can provide a revitalizing massage. Sunny Sinan, a massage therapist, is also on staff.
Depending on your level of pain or symptoms, it is possible that your issues may be resolved (somewhat, if not all the way) in as little as one to three visits, or as part of a regimen without the use of dangerous drugs or invasive surgeries.
With the opioid crisis at hand, Dr. Marin is confident she can help you with a natural approach to pain management. First by looking at your tongue, which is the window to your organs. If you have symptoms in certain parts of your body, Chinese medicine focuses on the root of the cause. If you have a problem with your stomach or back, it could stem from your kidneys, so Dr. Marin works on pressure points that concentrate on that organ.
Dr. Marin can also prescribe Chinese herbs that can help your condition. She is passionate about introducing you to the benefits of traditional Chinese medicine.
