VFW Picks Essay Contest Winners

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Marco Island Post 6370 recognized six local students for their entry and participation in the National Patriot’s Pen 2016 essay contest.

Each year the VFW recognizes excellence among youth through this program. Students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades submit their entries based on the appointed theme to their local post. Each post reviews and selects the best entries for elevation through a competitive selection process at district, state

and national levels.

This year’s theme was “The America I Believe In.” The essays received truly embodied the core elements of the contest’s theme, and demonstrated strong excellence in youth. The first place winner, Kathryn T. Barry received a $100 cash award. Each student received a certificate of achievement.
