It’s rare that Marco Island gets to have a real movie premiere, but such is the case this upcoming weekend. The Jewish Congregation of Marco Island (JCMI) is privileged to present the Florida West Coast Premiere of “1945,” a spectacularly successful movie that has garnered critical awards in every city it has been shown in.
The congregation has had a Jewish Film Festival every year for the past 17 years. The Film Festival is shown in cooperation with the Jewish Federation of Greater Naples. The films shown are not for Jewish eyes only, but cover many topics and ethnic groups. “1945″ is one such film. It deals with the relationships between people at the end of the brutal Second World War in Hungary.
This is a movie you will not soon forget. It has been heralded as “one of the top ten films of the year.” As of this writing, the film has only been shown in New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles and south Florida cities on the east coast. And now for one day only, it will be shown at JCMI on Sunday, March 11th at 2:00pm. As JCMI always does, the movie will be followed by a reception with coffee, cookies, and assorted treats.
This is your one chance to see “1945” here on the Marco Island. No traveling across the state to see one of the best films released this year.
How good is this film? It has been called “powerful and compelling” by the Los Angeles Times and “gorgeous and absorbing” by the New York Times. Other newspapers have lauded “1945″ as “magnificent,” “tremendous,” “lush and intelligent” and “stunningly beautiful.”
The film has been recommended by celebrities such as Joyce Carol Oates, National Book Award winner, and Ted Koppel, TV journalist who dubbed the film “Hitchcockian” and suspenseful. Koppel urged people to see it.
You now have that chance! Tickets are available from JCMI (239-642-0800). You can order your tickets by phone and pick them up at the movie. We urge people to pre-order your tickets and not wait until Sunday. We expect this film to be a sell-out. You don’t want to miss this one!
We’ll see you on March 11th at 2:00pm. By special arrangements with MENEMSHA FILMS there will be only one showing of “1945.” So this is your only chance to see this “magnificent” film. www.marcojcmi.com
