LuWayne Arnold of Marco Island has been hired as Director of Music at United Church, 320 N. Barfield Drive. As such she will be responsible for directing the choir and providing music for weekly worship services, as well as expanding the church’s music program . Recently Mrs. Arnold has been serving the congregation as interim organist while the church’s Music Committee interviewed candidates for the permanent position. “When I accepted the interim position I had no intention of going back to work, but I found I was having so much fun I decided to apply for the permanent position,” said Arnold. The congregation is delighted that she did and looks forward to a continuing relationship with this talented musician.
Mrs. Arnold earned a degree in music from Florida Southern College with a major in classical organ. From 1973 until 2008 she served congregations in California, Illinois, Missouri and here on Marco Island at the Wesley United Methodist Church as organist and choir director. She is looking forward to performing on the church’s chancel pipe organ, the only one of its kind on the island.
