Despite the morning rain, 22 intrepid volunteers helped with the Friends of Tigertail Beach Clean-up on Saturday, July 13, 2013. While Mary Ann Maniace, friend of FOT, helped with volunteer registration, Joe Parisi conducted a Membership Drive. Tony Smith from the Tigertail Beach Cafe supplied much appreciated, fresh, hot coffee for volunteers. There were four youth participants, accompanied by their parents, and all were given a certificate for their volunteerism.
There were seven large trash bags collected, containing towels, shoes, cans, cups, cigarette butts, some pieces of wood with nails, discarded fishnet with lead weights attached and even atiny GI Joe action model! A treasure trove of beer cans was found in the mangroves off to the north of the lagoon.
Once again, thanks to all volunteer participants who helped to underscore the need to preserve and maintain a clean Tigertail Beach. FOT looks forward to welcoming new faces at their next clean-up event.
