The fourth annual T-Rex “One Last Cast” tournament will be hosted by the Trevor Smith Memorial Foundation on October 19-20, 2018. A fun-filled kickoff party featuring the captains’ meeting, auction items, and dinner will take place on Friday, October 19, starting at 6 PM at Kretch’s. Two enhanced prints by well-known, local artist, J.J. Stinchcomb, will be available in the silent auction.
The photo release tournament is scheduled to depart at sun-up on Saturday, October 20, from the Goodland Boat Park, with both an open and a fly division. The total combined length of one snook, one redfish, and one trout will take home the prize. First place is $5,000; second place is $3,000; third place is $1,500; and fourth place is $500. As in years past, proceeds will benefit Youth Haven and Big Brothers and Big Sisters. This year, they will also donate to Captains for Clean Water in an effort to ensure the future sustainability of our eco system. Captains for Clean Water are concerned for the health of the greater Everglades and coastal estuaries. They helped draft the Now or Neverglades Declaration, which unites businesses, organizations, and individuals who truly care about the water quality in Florida.
Mangrove Maniacs will be demonstrating safe fishing practices and teaching the importance of the eco system to the children in attendance. They will focus on how the health of the water, plants, and animals are vital to making it all work, with hopes of instilling an appreciation for the waterways that bring so many to our area.
Angler entry fee is $150 per angler and includes the Friday night banquet dinner. Children and first responders are offered a rate of $125. Banquet only tickets are available at $40. In addition to auction items, there is a single drawing for $10,000. The $10,000 raffle is limited to 300 tickets. Tickets sell for $100 each or 5 for $400.
