The reach a fighter may have is an important element to his performance in the ring. The same can be said for the reach of the Marco Island Boxing Club, drawing in athletes from beyond the sandy beaches of this little island to fighters in Florida, New Jersey, Bermuda and Ireland. It is exactly what Coach Richie Stoltenborg had in mind when he began the non-profit Olympic style boxing club. “We offer a place where local kids can build self-esteem, get a good workout, develop friendships and learn competitive skills. This wouldn’t be possible without the support of islanders and Marco Island businesses.”
That support was a knock-out, as seen at the JW Marriott. It was a full house of boxing fans lining the ring, chants for favored boxers in a night filled with edge of your seat action.
“We promote amateur style boxing and grow the sport in local and state, regional, national and international competitions. I can’t thank everyone enough for all of the support in making this possible on Marco Island,” Coach Stoltenborg said.
