County Calling for Nominations for “Against All Odds” Award
The Collier County Communication and Customer Relations Division is accepting nominations for the “Against All Odds” award, an honor bestowed annually by the Board of County Commissioners on someone who has overcome great obstacles and has given back to the Collier County community.
Nominations must include the name and address of the nominee and must be accompanied by a factual narrative (no more than 600 words) describing the nominee’s journey. Specifically, how he or she has overcome considerable obstacles to achieve success and excel. The narrative also must provide examples of how the person has given back to the community.
The selected nominee will receive the award at a meeting of the Board of County Commissioners.

Holiday Solid Waste Collection Schedule December 25 and January 1
In Collier County, trash, recycling and yard waste will not be collected Tuesday, December 25, Christmas Day. There is no make-up day. If Tuesday, December 25 is your collection day, your solid waste collection service will resume on your next regularly scheduled collection day. The recycling drop-off centers will be closed Monday, December 24 and Tuesday, December 25. The county landfill and the Immokalee transfer station will be closed Tuesday, December 25.

Residents in Collier County may dispose of live Christmas trees by removing all decorations and placing the trees curbside on their regular yard waste collection day. If the tree is more than six feet, please cut the tree in half. Do not wrap trees in plastic. Do not place trees in dumpsters. Christmas trees may be taken to any Collier County recycling drop-off center for free disposal.
One-cent Infrastructure Sales Surtax Begins January 1
In November 2018, nearly 51 percent of Collier County electors approved the One-Cent Infrastructure Sales Surtax on the General Election Ballot. Beginning January 1, the sales tax will be collected by businesses who sell and deliver taxable goods within Collier County. The tax will be reported to the State Department of Revenue through the traditional Sales and Use Tax Return (Form DR15 or DR-15EZ) due on the first day of the month following each reporting period.
The Department of Revenue is preparing to mail information to each registered business in Collier County informing them of the new tax and providing guidance for business owners. The anticipated delivery of these packets is the first week of December.

Bayshore/Gateway Triangle Community Redevelopment Board
The Collier County Board of Commissioners is seeking applications for a position on the Bayshore/Gateway Triangle CRA Board. Applicants for this at-large position must reside in or engage in business (or both) in the Bayshore/Gateway Triangle Redevelopment Area. This nine-member board assists in the implementation of the redevelopment plan for the Bayshore/Gateway Triangle area. The term for this position is set to expire May 22, 2019.
