The Search for the Junonia

Submitted Photo

Want to learn more about the junonia, Florida’s rare but often sought-after shell?

On Thursday, January 10, 2019 the Marco Island Shell Club Seminar will feature Rebecca Mensch, a Marine Biologist at The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum on Sanibel. Mensch will present, “The Search for the Live Junonia.” This will be a fun and eye-catching presentation documenting the lengths (and depths!) to which one must go to find this renowned mollusk.

The seminar begins at 6 PM in the Desseler Hall at the United Church of Marco, located at 320 N. Barfield Drive, Marco Island. It is open to the public and all are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served.

In the past ten years I have found four of these beautiful shells on the south end of Marco Island, I have only found two on Sanibel.
