The Marco Island Historical Society (MIHS) provides programs for its members and the community throughout the year. These programs serve many purposes-they educate, they are a source of income to support the MIHS mission and they are entertaining. The upcoming MIHS program entitled, “Wedding Fashions Through the Ages” will be held at the Marco Island Historical Museum Rose History Auditorium at 2 pm on March 12, 2012. Tickets are $15.00 and are being sold at the museum gift shop. Proceeds from the show will support the society’s re-actors program.
The show will include eighteen wedding dresses dating back to 1894. Many of these dresses were worn by women from the Marco Island community and some have come from as far away as Canada. In addition, several of the dresses will be modeled by the women who wore these dresses on their wedding day- 50, 40, 30 years ago! A very special dress from 1950 will be modeled by the brides daughter and the brides great granddaughter will be the flower girl. Another daughter of the bride, Libby Milito, will model the dress her mother wore when she was married in 1922. The wedding dress worn by Marco Island’s resident artist Betty Kimble will be modeled by Cindy Anderson, a past president of the Marco Island Historical Society. The current president of the Marco Island Historical Society, Kathy Miracco, will model the dress she was wore when she was married to Ed Miracco in 1978 and Kathy and Ed’s daughter Allison will model the dress she wore when she was married on Marco Island in Oct. 2011. Allison’s wedding made history by being the first wedding to be held at Rose History Auditorium.
A Photostory with pictures of many Marco Island residents, their mothers and aunts on their wedding day and in attendance at weddings dating back to the early 1920’s will also be presented.
Wedding cake and punch will be served during the reception following the Fashion Show.
