The City of Marco Island’s Beach Advisory Committee has scheduled quarterly Beach Clean Up events in coordination with the Friends of Tigertail events and the annual National Coastal Clean Up for the rest of 2011.
It takes several entities to make the clean ups successful! Publix supermarket sponsors the Beach Advisory Committee clean ups by donating bags, gloves and bottled water to all participants. Marco Island Civic Association (MICA) provides their “gator” vehicle to collect the bags of trash and debris, pass out water and provide safety for the participants. Local businesses partner and participate in beautifying the beach! Kevin Donlan, Chairman of the Beach Advisory Committee and also manager of Publix on the Island has organized these events for the past two years. Coordinating all the groups who conduct clean ups gives the Marco Island beaches the benefit of a clean up each month from now and until the New Year!
All public are encouraged and welcome to volunteer and to participate. Just show up at the starting location and time listed below. If a student or group needs to accrue community volunteer hours, this is a great way to earn a few hours.
