“The Axis of Awesome” coming to Capt. Brien’s

The Axis of Awesome, an Australian musical comedy act landed in Los Angeles on April 4, the first time ever performing on American soil at the Largo Theatre in West Hollywood and will be making their way to Capt. Brian’s’ “Off the Hook” Comedy Club the weekend of April 21 thru the 24 after a appearance at the Ohio State University. The band members are Jordan Raskopoulos, a comedian who sings, Lee Naimo, plays guitar and sings and Benny Davis, the keyboard player and also sings. The group formed in 2006 after a stint doing improve events in their hometown of Sydney and got their first big break when they released an EP of rap parodies of the 2007 Australian Federal Election. The bands continued building a fan base by performing in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and appeared in various TV and radio programs. The group also traveled to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where they received both critical and audience endorsements.

The group had written a song called “4 Chords” which is a medley of 36 pop songs that all contain the same basic chord structure, had it receive airplay on the BBC and which then had a video performance of the song posted on “You Tube” where, as of the writing of this article has had over 14,000,000 hits worldwide. This makes this video one of the most popular around the world. The group had appeared at the 2009 Melbourne International Comedy Festival where the video was filmed and also performed the same at the Sydney Comedy Festival. The group has 2 comedy albums available, Scissors, Paper, ROCK! And “Infinity Rock Explosion.” The groups also have performed in Singapore, Queensland, New South Wales, Canada and Norway. The Group has also

won the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Moosehead Award and the Time Out Sydney Comedy Festival Best Australian Act Award.

I talked with band member Benny Davis who called in from Chapel Hill, North Carolina where the group was performing. Davis, a classically trained musician, plays keyboards in the band and takes a major role in the writing of the songs they perform. Benny stated they are “shocked and flattered “that the You Tube video of “4 Chords” is such a worldwide hit and adds he is, in one word, “Happy!”  The response of the tour so far has been amazing and all the band members love the American response to their songs Davis said that this trip to America is their chance to really raise the career standings and to make it in the states would be “wonderful “Davis said the members of the band as well as he look forward to coming to Florida and Marco Island and advises all should come to the show as Benny says “You will see the greatest show ever in their lives”. The Axis of Awesome, coming to Capt. Brien’s “Off the Hook” Comedy Club April 21 through April 24. Make plans to see this talented group of guys because you can say you saw them there and not at a stadium show which I predict will be in their future.
