It was another busy meeting on Thursday for the Kiwanis Club of Marco Island. The Terrific Kids from Tommie Barfield Elementary School were honored at the breakfast meeting. As usual, three outstanding children received a plaque, t-shirt and what Gayle Thawley likes to call the pencil “their magic wand to keep forever”. The room was filled with the proud families of each child along with the principal Dr. Jory Westberry. Future professional soccer player, 5th grader, Luis Alguilera, is a member of the safety patrol. Haylie Abreu, 4th grader, wants to be an oceanographer and discover just what makes things disappear into the Bermuda Triangle. A very smart and polite 3rd grader, Michael LaCava, looks forward to being an athlete. His whole family including grandparents were in attendance to see Michael receive his award.
Every month during the school year 3rd, 4th and 5th graders from Tommie Barfield Elementary School and Manatee Elementary School are awarded Terrific Kids by the Kiwanis Club of Marco Island. The students are selected by their teachers.
The Kiwanis Club of Marco Island meets every Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast at O’Donoghue’s’ Irish Bar & Grill, Royal Palm Plaza, corner of N. Collier and Bald Eagle Road, Marco Island. Visitors are welcome. Stop by and see how you can make a difference in the lives of the children in our area.
