Ten Years of Running Marco’s Hills!

There was something for everyone for the 10th annual running of the Marco Island Half Marathon. For the shorter 5K (3.1 miles), the course was walker and family friendly and had plenty of challenge for the speedsters. For the longer distance of 13.1 miles, the legendary hills of Marco tested the quads, glutes and hamstrings of the runners but they took it one stride at a time.

The first Marco Island Half Marathon occurred in March 2008. It was a way to honor the memory of a beloved resident, Carole Sbertoli, a realtor, who suddenly passed away in August 2007. Shelli Connelly of Marco Island remembered the first race ten years ago, and she still has her first commemorative race shirt. Shelli has participated in the half marathon event ever since.
