Tommie Barfield Elementary (TBE) was electric with activity on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, as the students and staff opened their doors to the public to celebrate another successful school year at Authors and Artists Night.
The aroma of the vendors’ carts in the playground area wafted down to the parking lot. A local professional jazz band’s rollicking music had visitors smiling and moving to the notes as theyentered and exited the main building. The hallways and rooms were bright and cheerful, festooned with the art, writing and science projects of the students.
A Karaoke room was a favorite spot, with a dozen or so students crowded in front of a large flat screen TV, singing along! The cafeteria had been transformed into a stage for TBE’s musically talented. The audience was treated to an impressive performance bya fifth grade violinist, after which the school chorus performed several delightful songs.
I had the good luck to visit some of the third and second grade classrooms and speak with some students about their projects. Three wrote books and one made an ocean habitat using a shoebox. Thank you to Kacie, Darwin, Adam, and Axton for sharing your stories.
