Taking care of self

Take a little time for yourself.

Take a little time for yourself.

Is this how you feel on Friday? It’s Friday! Hallelujah! It’s the weekend baby! Isn’t it amazing how good you f eel and the excitement that is generated on Friday? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could feel this good everyday and generate the same kind of excitement and enthusiasm Monday thru Thursday?

Could it be that you’re so excited about the weekend because it is a great time for self care?  Except this year you’re neglecting your self care (massages, pedicures, walking on the beach, meditating) because you have the opportunity to work doubles, odd hours and extra days.  You’ve told yourself that “I must work as much as I can this season.”

Even though you’re working as many hours as possible, you can still take care of yourself.  Administering self care can be as easy as doing a short meditation while taking a shower, taking a soaking bath once a week, looking up and enjoying the sky as often as possible, smiling more, practice deep breathing on your way to and from work and saying ‘feel good’ affirmations silently to yourself as you go through your day. These are just a few exercises you can do that don’t require extra time. I’m sure you can think of many more.

Being able to incorporate some self care activities into your already busy schedule makes it seamless, easy and effortless. All it takes is a change in your thinking and an attitude adjustment. Think of your self care as your ‘inside joke’, something that empowers you feel so good that you radiate happiness and good cheer in all circumstances. You’ll be amazed at how energized you feel and how ‘being tired’ is a thing of the past.

Incorporating the self care exercises into your day helps you adjust your attitude and allows you to go through your day with a new outlook, a new magnetism and excitement.  Imagine the fun you’ll have going through your day spreading joy. You know that joy is contagious, even the ill tempered client will be infected by it.

Learning to take care of yourself in small spurts throughout the day is a gift that you can use in season and out. Notice the difference in your life as you practice these exercises and others that add value for you.

Incorporating the above self care activities do not take away from any of the other things you do for your family, community and friends. Because you’ll do these simultaneously with activities you’re already doing. So let go of the GUILT!
