In its first historical tour, the Marco Re-enactors hosted 16 ladies from The Summit House Condominium of Marco Island. The women experienced the private docent tour which is hosted by the Marco Island Historical Museum.

Beginning at the Museum, the ladies were treated to local historical author and member of the Re-enactors, Betsy Perdichizzi, as their docent. “Her wealth of knowledge made the experience a unique historical tour,” said Arlene Riegel of The Summit House. The ladies began their tour at the museum, learning about the first settlers and marveled at the all too realistic Calusa mannequins in the Calusa life exhibit.

A full tour of the museum was

followed by a visit to the cemetery and the church, “where we not only had a history lesson but engaged in singing Amazing Grace,” added Riegel.

The group moved onto the Otter Mound in Caxambas, surprised at the historical treasures that exist right here on Marco Island. A final stop at Horr’s Plantation on Key Marco taught the women about the pineapple farming of the past.

According to Riegel, “this tour should not be missed and it should be placed on Day Two of anyone’s visit to Marco Island. We intend on returning to visit the many other sites they have as possibilities.
