The Marco Island Academy girls’ soccer team continue their dream season, despite a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to First Baptist Academy for the district championship on Thursday, February 6.
The good news is that the 18-2 Rays advance as the fifth seed in the regional finals at Out of Doors Academy in Sarasota on February 11.
“Losing the district final 1-0 was a heartbreaker,” said Head Coach Darrin Palumbo, “but we accomplished our goal of moving onto the regional and continuing to keep the season moving forward. Also, both the boys and girls team won the Paradise Coast Athletic Conference championships, so that’s a positive for both of our teams.”
The Rays are the highest–seeded non-conference winner in the regional tournament.
Last week, the girls won the PCAC championship with a 6-0 win over Mason Classical Academy. They defeated Neumann 3-0 in the first round of the district tournament before falling to FBA in the district finals. Both of the girls’ losses this season were to FBA.
The boys defeated Donahue Academy 7-0 to win the PCAL championship before falling to FBA 1-0 in the first round of the district playoffs. The boys finish the season at 4-13-1.
