Spirit of Marco Award Recipients Announced

The Noontime Rotary Club of Marco Island has announced four additional selections for the 2018 Spirit of Marco Island Awards: Gary Landis, Rene and Tish Champagne, and Dianna Dohm.

Gary Landis was caught off guard during a meeting at the American Cancer Society, when a group of Rotarians interrupted to make the presentation. Landis was recognized for his work with organizations such as the Island Country Club Charitable Foundation, where he serves as volunteer chief executive officer, and the American Cancer Society where he is co-chair of the “Shoot Down Kids Cancer” committee and a past president of the board of directors. He and his wife Ann are active with Camp Able, a week-long camp for special need persons held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

At Marco Island Academy (MIA), Rene Champagne was surprised when a group of Rotarians made the announcement that he and his wife Tish were selected. Jane Watt, president of the MIA board and several board members joined in on the surprise. The Champagnes are MIA supporters and benefactors. Rene is the board’s vice-chair and serves on the MIA leadership team. Tish has served at the MIA’s Ambassador of the Environment Camp and is the staff photographer. Tish is also on the board of directors with the Marco Island Historical Society (MIHS), and the couple is a major benefactor.

A surprise presentation was made at the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce to Executive Director Dianna Dohm. Dianna is president of the Marco Island Fire-Rescue Foundation, board member of the Marco Island Seafood Festival, past president of the Kiwanis Club, and has served on Marco’s Beautification Committee and the Marco Island Civic Association Board of Directors. Dianna was recognized as the 2016 Marco Island Citizen of the Year.

Gary Landis, Rene and Tish Champagne and Dianna Dohm will be formally presented with their 2018 Spirit of Marco Island Award at a Gala Awards Dinner on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at the Bistro Soleil Restaurant in Old Marco.
