Souper Bowl will take place on Saturday, February 3rd from 11 AM-1 PM at Mackle Park on Marco Island. The event is organized by the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce, and benefits the Chamber’s Leadership Marco Scholarship Fund.
Eight hundred bowls will be available for purchase. The bowls were all hand painted, mostly by local students. For $15 you can select your own unique bowl, and then sample delicious soups from area restaurants.
The confirmed restaurants participating are: CJ’s on the Bay, the Hilton, Island Country Club, Maia at JW Marriott Mangos, Petit Soleil, Philly Grille, The SpeakEasy, and Stonewalls. The Chamber advises that there is one more possible restaurant in the works. Coastal Breeze News will update readers of any lastminute restaurant additions on coastalbreezenews.com.
Restaurants can prepare any recipe of their choosing, however organizers try to make sure there aren’t two of the same kind of soup. This will be the sixth year that some of the restaurants have participated, and many have found that people are looking forward to a bowl of their tried and true favorite soup.
CJ’s on the Bay will offer the same soup as past years: their stuffed pepper soup. Chef Laura Owen states, “We have always had such a great response about this soup. It is quite hearty and is great for a cool or windy day.”
Lisa Meurgue of Bistro Soleil and Petit Soleil advised that they again will serve cream of mushroom soup with no changes to the recipe. The soup is topped with onion straws and a dollop of cream scented with port wine.
New to the event this year are the Island Country Club and Maia. The Island Country club will be serving a Rueben soup. We look forward to finding out what Maia will be serving on February 3. Make sure you get there early and enjoy a bowl. Or two!
