Sizzling Red-Hot Gypsy Jazz

at the Marco Island Center for the Arts

Marco Island Center for the Arts is pleased to present classical and crossover violinist Jeff Leigh and master guitarist Richard Battaglia appearing together as Gypsy Sojourn. “Hot Club” jazz or gypsy swing is a type of jazz music started by a Romanian guitarist called “Django” in 1930’s Paris. The style known today as gypsy jazz became popular in the United States post 1973 as French violinist Stephane Grappelli began to tour.

Jeff Leigh, PhD teaches at the Village School in Naples and has played with the Naples Philharmonic for the past 10 years. Richard Battaglia has traveled the world playing gypsy jazz, blues, traditional jazz and Brazilian music.

Gypsy swing standards include jazz hits of the ‘20s and ‘30s, such as “Summertime” and “Swing 42.” Both songs will be played at this lively concert on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 5:30 – 7 PM at the Marco Island Center for the Arts. The concert will take place in the Art Center’s Lauritzen and Rush galleries.
