Each spring the Marco Island Foundation for the Arts sponsors a special luncheon to recognize a local “Artist of the Year” and to give scholarships to local students who are majoring in the arts. This year’s luncheon will be on Saturday, May 21st at 11:30 AM at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 350 S. Barfield Drive, Marco Island.
JRobert Houghtaling has been named this year’s Artist of the Year and will be recognized during the Scholarship/Artist of the Year Luncheon. JRobert is a musician, composer, songwriter and producer. He has been singing, playing acoustic and electric guitars, violin and steel drums for over 15 years. He often volunteers to play during special events in Marco Island and Naples. Most recently he played for Marco Island’s 50th Anniversary Gala, the Goodland Arts Alliance Annual Harbor Arts and Music Festival and the Cultural Carnivale sponsored by the Cultural Alliance of Marco Island and Goodland.
JRobert is a talented musician who writes his own original music and lyrics, which are usually about Marco Island, the Ten Thousand Islands and Florida. In his music he shares insights of the Florida way of life. And his enthusiasm shows a love to perform.
At the luncheon several local graduating seniors and college students majoring in visual arts, music, literary or performing arts will receive a scholarship and be recognized. The students’ art will be on display, while music and performance majors will share their talents with the luncheon guests.
The public is invited to attend this special and fun event. Guests will enjoy a wonderful lunch provided by Stonewalls Restaurant and meet the scholarship winners and the Artist of the Year JRobert Houghtaling.
