Rotary Club of Marco Island Sunrise confirmed today its approval of grant request from Lisa Braren, music instructor at Manatee Elementary for a music amplification and karaoke unit. Ms. Braren, formerly the long time music instructor at Tommie Barfield Elementary, recently accepted the same position at Manatee Elementary with the goal of rebuilding the music program at that school. The music program is in need of substantial equipment and resources, but she highlighted need for a music amplification unit to help students with performance and public speaking.
The issue, as always, was cost. There was no money in the budget at the school, so Ms. Braren turned to Marco Island Sunrise Rotary. Presentation was made at a recent board meeting and without hesitation, the board approved purchase of the unit.
Sunrise Rotarians delivered the unit to an excited group of music students and instructor. In the words of Ms. Braren, “the wonderful gift will help the students shine in their musical performances as well as their daily learning. It is such an essential piece of equipment for the music room, and providing this for us is greatly appreciated.” Ms. Braren later confirmed she set it up and her students are having fun with understanding how a microphone enhances their voices.
Tom Mann, President of Sunrise Rotary, explained that the Sunrise Rotarians raised funds all year round to meet community needs. The music/karaoke unit is just one example of the Club’s efforts to help.
