Robbery Suspects Apprehended Following Chase


Marco Island Police and the Collier County Sheriff’s Office were busy on Tuesday evening as officers from the Marco department were dispatched to the Crescent Beach Apartments for the report of a robbery and carjacking.

Upon completion of their dinner, a couple proceeded back to their residence near the Residents’ Beach at approximately 7:30 PM.  After dropping his wife off at the front door of the building, the husband, age 75, proceeded to park the couple’s dark gray Audi SUV in the parking lot.

After parking the vehicle, the subject was attacked as he walked towards the apartment building, by two males who yelled “Cops!” and tackled him to the ground. One of the attackers covered his mouth, and the two men went through the victim’s pockets and removed his wallet and car keys.  They removed $150 from the victim’s wallet and left the scene in his Audi.

The Marco Island Police Department (MIPD) responded to the scene where they quickly questioned the victim and received enough information regarding the couple’s vehicle to allow information to be transmitted through the Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).  Shortly after that information was transmitted the vehicle was spotted northbound on 951.

Units from the CCSO attempted to stop the vehicle, but the subjects attempted to evade officers.  The two suspects crashed the vehicle in the area of Forrest Glenn Golf and Country Club.  While attempting to allude officers on foot, one subject accidentally shot himself with a handgun in his possession.  K-9 units were deployed, and the two subjects were apprehended.

The subjects apprehended are Jermaine Fyffe, 25 years of age from Fort Lauderdale, and Shomayo Morgan, 26 years of age from Boynton Beach, Florida. Fyffe and Morgan are being charged with one count of Robbery and one count of Grand Theft auto.

It is unknown at this time whether the suspects had acted alone or in conjunction with others.  The CCSO and MIPD are cooperating, and the investigation is ongoing.  The two subjects are being held in the Collier County Jail.
