ROADWATCH REPORT #32 FOR WEEK OF August 5, 2012

This weekly report is prepared by Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to inform the public about upcoming road work in Southwest Florida. Below are the work schedule and lane closure locations for major state road projects. Motorists are urged to drive with courtesy, caution, common sense, and patience as they travel through construction areas. Speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

COLLIER COUNTY

I-75:   Recreational access area on Alligator Alley: Construction project Crews are building a recreational access facility that includes a boat ramp and parking lot with fencing and lighting.  Work involves widening and resurfacing the facility’s roadway, making drainage improvements, and adding intelligent transportation system components and a high-tension cable barrier system on I-75 in this area. The job is estimated for completion by summer 2012. The contractor is Convalvias USA.

I-75:  At the SR 951 interchange: Construction project Crews are making improvements to interchange ramps, adding new mast arm signals, and placing new pavement markings and signs.  Activities involve placement of base material at Northbound and Southbound off ramps as well as Northbound on ramp and curb and sidewalk placement at the Southbound off ramp and Northbound on ramp. Crews will also be working on signalization mast arms at all ramps. Completion is expected in fall 2012.  The contractor is APAC Southeast.

SR 29: From north of Oil Well Road to south of County Road 846 in Immokalee (approximately eight miles): Construction project – This project resurfaces the roadway and includes sidewalk, shoulder, and guardrail work and traffic signal improvements at Farm Workers Village. Crews are paving the roadway, grading shoulders, placing sod, installing permanent signs, and working on the signal at Farm Workers Village. Construction is planned 6 days a week, during the day and overnight, beginning Sunday night, weather permitting. Lane closures are required and motorists should expect delays. All travel lanes will remain open from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Motorists are advised to look out for pedestrians and bicyclists, obey flagging operations, observe posted speed limits, and drive with caution in the construction zone. Completion is estimated for fall 2012. The contractor is C.W. Roberts Contracting, Inc.

SR 84/Davis Boulevard: From west of Radio Road to Santa Barbara Boulevard:  Construction project — Crews are expanding the road to six lanes, adding sidewalk, bike lanes, and street lights, and building a noise wall.  On Monday, August 6, crews begin placing construction signs and erosion control throughout the project.  This work takes about two weeks, weather permitting.  No lane closures are planned.  Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for workers in the construction zone.  Project completion is estimated to be the end of 2013, weather permitting.  The contractor is Guymann Construction.

12th Street; From 13th Avenue North to 14th Avenue North: Construction project — The improvements under this oontract consist of sidewalk construction and drainage improvements. Work is underway from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Motorists should expect possible lane closures. Weather permitting; these activities are anticipated to last approximately one month.  Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction workers in the construction zone.  The Contractor is Midwestern Construction, Inc.
