The Speakeasy opened a bit early one day last week to serve breakfast to a crowd of bikers. The mission of this “gang” wasn’t mayhem however, it was to see their wheels rolling convoy-style for the Joy of Giving charity. The event, the Ride for Joy Poker Run met for breakfast at Speakeasy. After breakfast, and with a proper send off, the bikers set out on a poker run stopping along the way at various establishments for fun and refreshments. When they returned to Speakeasy later that day, the best “poker” hand won a prize and high bidders took home silent auction items. Not only did everyone have a great time with good friends, they raised money for the Joy of Giving.
The mission ofthe Joy of Giving is to provide presents to children of families in need so they can enjoy a true Christmas experience. The Joy has done just that for thousands and thousands of children in Collier County in nearly three decades of existence. Each year, families are identified through teachers, coaches, afterschool and camp caregivers, and more. Those families are invited to a shopping event at Walmart and given a specified amount to shop with based on the number of children in the family. The Joy was founded by Nikki Davis and operates with all volunteers, so 100% of all funds raised go directly to giving the children a very merry holiday. If you would like to donate to the Joy of Giving, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the website at Jogchildren.org.
