The stress was due to a force of which our council had no control – the uncertainty of the impending impact of Hurricane Irma. But there was indeed a bright spot on the agenda that helped to lighten the load, as the American Cancer Society’s 2017 Relay For Life of Marco Island received a proclamation from the City of Marco Island in recognition of placing first in fundraising for the state of Florida. The team event raised over $345,000 in the fight against cancer.
Sue Olszak, ACS Senior Development Manager, Distinguished Events, thanked all who participated and supported this year’s event, saying “On behalf of the American Cancer Society Staff, Relay For Life Lead Cathy Nelson, Sponsors and the Relay For Life committee, we would like to thank you all for your time, treasures and talents in making Marco Island’s Relay For Life number one in all of Florida! I am so proud to be a part of this amazing community and have met so many wonderful people along the way. I am so proud to be a part of a community that comes together to support one another and give back to help those who are fighting a battle against cancer.”
