RC Laser Championship Regatta Competition Returns to Marco

On Saturday, March 4th and Sunday, March 5th, the Marco Island Model Yacht Club (MIMYC) in conjunction with the City of Marco Island Department of Parks and Recreation, will hold the 14th Annual RC Laser Midwinter Championship Regatta at Mackle Park in Marco Island.

This popular competition draws people to Mackle Park from far and wide, as both competitors and spectators. Entries for the regatta were limited to 30. The format is a two fleet (Gold/Silver) system, with qualifying races, in odd-even format, that will be held on Saturday in order to divide the total fleet into two fleets. On Sunday, the fleet will be separated into Gold and Silver fleets, with Saturday’s scores being carried forward.

There is a busy schedule planned, starting on Friday, March 3, when the entrants can register and begin practice sailing at 2 PM.

On Saturday, March 4, registration and practice sailing continues at 8:30 AM, followed by a skippers meeting at 9:30 AM. Qualifying races start to divide the fleet at 10 AM. Spectators should note that the final race of the day starts no later than 3:30 PM.

On Sunday, March 5, following the Skippers Meeting at 9:30 AM, racing is scheduled to begin at 10 AM. The final race of day will start no later than 2:30 PM.

Afterwards, an Awards Presentation will take place at 3:30 PM to recognize the winners. The regatta concludes with a fun and relaxing post-race social event (Dutch treat) at Stan’s Idle Hour in Goodland at 4:30 PM.
