Purim recounts another chapter in the history of Jewish survival. Long ago and far away in the land of Persia, King Ahashverus had as an advisor a very wicked man named Haman who was scheming to do away with all the Jews in the Kingdom. Haman, however, more than met his match in Mordecai, a very intelligent Jewish man extremely devoted to his people. Hearing of Haman’s twisted scheme, Mordecai introduced his beautiful niece, Esther, into the King’s court. Ahashverus fell in love with Esther and made her his queen. Esther subsequently informed the King of Haman’s treachery. This beautiful and brave heroine saved her people and destroyed the vicious Haman.
